Our core values of Integrity, Humility, and Excellence encourages us to embrace innovation to create delightful experiences, drive a customer-centric culture and inspire our people to bring out the best in them. At Sunway Malls, we believe that we are stronger together. We set an example for the retail industry as leaders of sustainability by focusing on three areas of management – Energy, Waste and Water.
Sunway Malls’ Together For Good campaign, launched in 2022, focuses on championing eight of the SDGs through six of our initiatives; Green Lease, Sustainable Operations, Waste Management, Green Procurement, Community Building and Urban Farming.
Sunway Malls works with Kloth Cares to raise awareness and encourage the practice of recycling fabric so that we can reduce the waste diverted to landfills. Together, we aim to keep old clothes out of landfills and distribute the unwanted garments to be repurposed into various useful items.

Sunway Pyramid is on a sustainable journey to reduce its carbon footprint by managing food waste more responsibly. A food digester machine is available onsite to help F&B tenants with the large amount of generated food waste. The machine will give food waste new life as compost.
The compost is packed and ready for public collection at designated spots:
Sunway Malls believes in creating new life from waste materials by turning it into art. Waste materials such as discarded wood, old window panes, props and structures from past events are upcycled and repurposed to create installations in our malls as part of efforts to reduce waste.
You can find these installations here:
Our Smart Parking is a fully unified system which leverages on several cashless payment options. The paperless (cashless and ticketless) parking system is part of our digitalisation journey to reduce our carbon footprint. It also enables us to provide our customers with a hassle-free experience when paying for parking fees. The paperless system has enabled us to divert over 0.5 tonnes of printed materials annually.
Sunway Pyramid is the host of Malaysia’s first digitally enhanced washroom system. The smart toilet uses a centralised Internet of Things (IoT) system for data collection to help lower costs, reduce downtime, and responsibly consume water for a more sustainable output. The real time data analysis allows us to ensure a pleasant experience for shoppers.
The ‘Autism is Awesome’ initiative, also known as Autsome, is our commitment to the large community we serve. In support of SDG 10 and 11, the Autsome initiative aims to educate, advocate and celebrate those with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. We encourage the awareness and acceptance of ASD with the wider public and strive to create an inclusive experience for all. Our malls are equipped with calm rooms or sensory walls to help with overstimulation and our customer care team are properly trained to care for shoppers with ASD.
In our commitment to SDG 7, 11 and 13, Sunway Malls has installed solar panels to harness clean and renewable energy to power selected operating systems. We made this investment to sustainably increase our use of clean energy and to responsibly reduce our carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. The data collected from alternative energy sources are analysed and reported to the Sunway Group Board of Sustainability in effort to improve energy efficiency.
Sunway Malls’ indoor farming system promotes sustainable and responsible food production. The Urban Farm leverages on aquaponics and hydroponics to sustainably use natural resources and to reduce carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. This green urbanisation initiative also converts under-utilised space into an urban garden that provides a healthy food source. Fresh produce are sold to F&B tenants and excess fresh produce are sold to Sunway XFarms.
Sunway’s Green Lease Partnership Programme invites all tenants to implement international practices of operating sustainability. The Green Lease encourages fair cooperation and shared responsibility between all parties (landlords, tenants and investors) as we share the same dream in achieving sustainability goals for the greater good. Through the Green Lease agreement, we responsibly manage energy and water usage.
Sunway Malls practices Green Procurement which ensures that we consider the cost of products and services alongside the environmental and social impact throughout its entire lifecycle. We advocate for using eco-friendly products and services, as well as the protection of human rights in everything that we do as leading retail organisation to preserve natural resources, protect our workers, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Sunway Malls led a partnership with Jeffrey Sachs Centre (JSC) at Sunway University, Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), Malaysia Retailers Association (MRA), and Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) to launch the Sustainability Collaboration Alliance Network (SCAN). The partnership launched its first phase of a three-tier programme for retailers to learn about sustainable business practices. The online educational platform called Retail Extended Learning (ReX) is complimentary for all retailers to learn about the sustainability agenda.
